Michael Aaron will be 6 months old tomorrow! Can you believe it? I personally cannot! But, believe it or not, Michael Aaron is a fast growing little boy. June has been a busy month for him. This month he:
Discovered his feet! Now the moment his diaper is off, he rolls up in a ball and works hard at getting his foot in his mouth. His hand usually gets in the way but every now and then, he actually manages to chomp down on his toes - not sure why this is such a goal, but who can understand the mind of an almost-six-month-old?
Rolled over from his back to his tummy! He’s had the tummy to back roll down for a little while now but the much more complicated back to tummy maneuver was elusive…until I came in to find him in his crib and flopped on his tummy with no help whatsoever. He now rolls both ways with some regularity although he seems to prefer scooting to rolling for transportation. [more...]
Happy Father’s Day to all the daddy’s out there, but especially to the daddy in our house! Michael does such an awesome job for our family. He loves on his little boy, plays with him, makes him giggle and chatter and is already teaching him the joys of hip hop music and anything electronic! He changes diapers and soothes tears. He remembers all of the things I forget to pack in the diaper bag and he listens to all my chatter about our daily activities and looks over all the pictures I snap (which can take a while some days…).
We spent an evening with our friends, the Padgetts, on Saturday and while there Michael played in their jumparoo. He absolutely loved the music and animal sounds and watching him figure out how to make them work was just priceless! I love this kid!!!
I was uploading some new pictures to the website and as is often my habit, I looked back through some of the older albums while I was waiting. It makes me smile to see those first pictures of our little boy and to remember that we didn’t think he had that funny newborn look (he so did!) and that we didn’t notice his jaundice (normal…but oh so obvious compared to now). We were simply entranced by our perfect little baby. Now, as life has returned to normal and work/church/chore routines have resumed, we are busier, but still captivated by this little guy. In fact, it’s even better now - with the smiles and laughs, the chatter and wiggles. Our teeny newborn has turned into a happy, chubby baby. Check it out…
Wow, doesn’t time just fly? Michael Aaron is already five months old. He’s doing great - and getting huge! I haven’t stepped on the scale with him recently, but my arms will tell you that he’s a solid little boy. It is such a joy to watch him grown and learn and change. He is getting very interested in the world around him - grabbing at anything he can get his hands on (my hair - ouch!) and of course pulling everything straight to his mouth. He laughs out loud now - mostly at our dog, but sometimes at his mommy and daddy when they work really hard for it. He loves to stand and jump in his exersaucer and on our laps. He’s better at tummy time but, frankly, a little lazy. He rolls over occasionally and he does scoot around but he never goes far and when he’s even the slightest bit tired he just whines for help instead of flipping himself. I’m sure that will change soon though and soon I will be complaining that he never sits still! :) [more...]
I am WAY overdue in posting about this (and everything else!) but my first Mother’s Day was wonderful! In the week leading up to it, I had only considered what I was doing for my own mother. I had completely forgotten that as a new mommy, this day was now for me too! Fortunately for me, my husband did not forget.
The Saturday evening before Mother’s Day, Micheal sent me out for a few hours on my own at Barnes & Noble. I thought he was just giving me some time out - which he was - but he also had an ulterior motive. He needed me out of the way so he could paint our son’s hands and feet blue and make little imprint canvases for me. So cute!!! Michael Aaron was not totally cooperative, so one of my handprints is more of a finger painting, but I love it that way - very original!
On Sunday morning, before church, Michael made me a very delicious breakfast and presented my little hands and feet. He is a great daddy and a wonderful husband and made my day very special indeed.
We are now 4 months into our cloth diapering adventure (we didn’t start until he was almost a month old). I feel like we have learned a lot…and are still learning. These days there are so many cloth diaper options out there. We started out with the cheapest - prefolds and covers - because that was the point. There have been ups and downs - generally ups though. We like the cloth diapers and don’t find them to difficult to use. With all the laundry I already do, I don’t really notice another load or two each week. We’ve even traveled with them once or twice when we knew we would be able to do laundry. [more...]
We spent most of the last week hanging out with Aunt Kim and Cousin Dillon! This was my first visit with “just Kim” (meaning no Mom or Dad or other relatives!) since before we were both married with kids. We had a great time hanging out together, staying up too late and comparing notes on life, marriage and motherhood. It was so much fun to watch Michael Aaron and Dillon together. Dillon is great with babies and loved his cousin “baby Michael” and Michael Aaron loved watching Dillon. Dillon can get Michael Aaron laughing like no one else and even managed to get some really great sustained giggles out of him. It was fantastic! [more...]
Michael Aaron turned 4 months old today! I can’t believe how quickly it has gone. We went in for his check up today and while there another baby came into the waiting room. She was a cutie and teeny tiny. I asked and found out that she was just 5 weeks old. I was thinking that it seems like so long since Michael Aaron was that age - I can hardly remember what it felt like to hold him when he was that small! He is now such a robust little guy…fast approaching his cousin and other age mates in weight! So, onto the all important vital statistics: [more...]
