Catching up on…Michael Aaron!

Michael Aaron

When I last checked in, Michael Aaron was just seven months old.  He is now ten months and what a difference those three months have made!  Three months ago, he was just starting to get around.  From that he progressed to “low crawling”, which he stuck with for quite some time.  He just recently switched to hands and knees crawling and now does that almost exclusively.  In September, he began pulling himself up on the furniture and that quickly evolved into “cruising” (walking around while holding onto the furniture, a person, the dog, etc.)  He has just recently started to let go of the furniture for a few seconds at a time while still maintaining his balance.  His favorite new skill is climbing!  Eek!  It makes his mommy so nervous, but he loves climbing up onto low tables, fireplaces, slides, anything!  He is so pleased with himself at each new achievement and his grin of pride is quite a sight to behold! Look what I can do! He can climb! Mission Accomplished!

Three months ago, Michael was still eating primarily purees with some Cheerios thrown in for fun.  Now he eats mostly finger foods (veggies, fruits, cheese, crackers and even a little meat) and I only feed him with a spoon when we’re tackling something messy like rice or applesauce!  He is quite the little pro at getting food from tray to mouth although he is certainly not neat about it.  I usually strip him down to his diaper for meals and Brody is always loitering nearby to clean the mess out of the high chair when Michael is done!

Finger Foods

We are still using primarily cloth diapers although I recently inherited a decent stash of disposables in his size and I have been using those more frequently since we have them (and they were free!).  We are happy with the cloth diapers - especially since they save us a ton of money, but I certainly appreciate the convenience of disposables and it’s easier to fit clothes over them!

We stuck with breastfeeding until Michael’s nine-month appointment.  We had been having some trouble - which I initially attributed to teething but then later found out was probably due to my new pregnancy - and when his weigh-in showed him at less than a pound up from his six-month appointment, I decided it was time to make a switch.  It was much easier than expected.  Michael hadn’t take a  bottle since his first month, but a little juice in with the formula did the trick - that and I suspect a strong hunger!  The difference within just a few days was amazing and in less than a month he was up more than two pounds!  Formula is definitely more expensive than breast milk, but worth it for the benefit of not starving my son!  :)

Michael and I are absolutely loving this parenthood thing!  Michael Aaron is such a joy.  He is a genuinely happy and contented baby and it is indescribably wonderful to watch him grow and change.  He loves his mommy and daddy and his smile at seeing us enter a room is enough to make my heart want to burst with happiness.  He squeals with delight when Brody plays with him and he babbles and chatters away as he explores from room to room.  He has a strong mischevious streak and a special devilish grin that he wears when he knows he is getting into trouble.  He finds new ways to make us crazy every day but he has so much fun doing it that it’s hard to stay exasperated.  The delight of watching him figure things out is usually more powerful than the frustration that he is in the dog’s water again!

Big Mess! What?

It is difficult to believe that the tiny baby we brough home just ten months ago is fast turning into a toddler!  I’m not sad about it.  I look forward to each new phase in this little guy’s life, but the speed with which it all happens is enough to make a mom’s head spin!

Outside!
